By Juju Manubag-Empuerto

CEBU CITY, Feb. 14 (PIA) -- The Young Minds Academy (YMA) in Cebu is calling on interested youth leaders aged 12 to 20 to apply for their leadership and citizenship development training program.

Interested applicants must form a team of five members under one of the following categories: Generation A (17–20 years old) or Generation B (12-16 years old).

The list of requirements and application forms may be downloaded at www.rafi.org.ph/leadership-citizenship/young-minds-academy.

Deadline for submission of application is on Feb. 25.

YMA has already trained since its inception in 2006 some 565 youths towards enhanced competence, strengthened character, and active citizenship engagement.

Participating youths undergo learning sessions, community exposures, and project development anchored on an annual theme, accordingly.

YMA, now in its 7th season, is one of the programs of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI)-Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center (EADSC) under the ‘Leadership & Citizenship’ focus area, which aims to groom future leaders and influencers in the community.

Ms Evelyn Nacario-Castro, executive director of RAFI-EADSC, said that in the academy, responsibility and perseverance are keys to success.

"This is no place for trial and error/ or experimentation. This is no place for people who cannot complete a task and a responsibility. Here, we value both talent and responsibility. Talent may get you in YMA but to succeed, one needs to couple it with responsibility. Talent qualifies you but responsibility differentiates you," she said.

The theme for YMA’s Season 7 is “Urban Development” in support of the Mega Cebu program and framework for long-term and collaborative planning and action towards a more livable and sustainable city-region.

Other focus areas of RAFI are Integrated Development, Micro-finance and Entrepreneurship, Culture & Heritage and Education.
