DUMAGUETE CITY, Feb. 6 (PIA) --
About 5,000 multi-sectoral representatives and students participated in a light
up for peace formation recently held at the Perdices Memorial Coliseum in
Dumaguete City to attain and be the largest Human Peace Sign for the Guinness
Book of World Records.
Philippine Army’s 302nd Brigade Information Officer, Capt. Anacito Naz, said the mass movement for peace promotion centers on the formation of a human peace sign to help raise awareness and empathy for peace into action.
The formation, dubbed “Light Up for Peace,” gathered students from different universities of Dumaguete City including the ROTC and CWTS, members of the Philippine Army’s 302nd Brigade and 79th IB, high school students and faculty members from Negros Oriental High School, St La Salle University in Bacolod City, NGOs and POs, local government units and other peace advocates in the province.
The event was spearheaded by the Renaissance Youth Leaders Forum (RYLF) of Silliman University in partnership with the University Spiritual Life Council (USLC), Smart Telecommunication, Oriental Negros Children Advocacy network (ONCAN) and Philippine Army.
Capt. Naz said the massive participation of the event became a congregation of Filipinos uniting for peace, standing together in the formation of the greatest and largest human peace sign in the world.
Before the formation, the participants started a parade at Quezon Park going around the city towards to the coliseum.
The activity gave the participants an occasion to celebrate and appreciated the importance of unity and peace and made them a pioneer of positive change in our community, said Capt Naz. (FCR/JCT-PIA 7, Negros Oriental)
