CEBU CITY,
March 8 (PIA)--- “Pursue your targets, no matter how unpopular tax collectors
are.”
This was the message of Civil Service Commission (CSC) Head Francisco Duque III in the recent Tax Campaign 2013 Kickoff of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Cebu, recently.
Duque said the unpopularity of the tax collectors is something that they have to sympathize with the BIR.
“But I tell you, no matter how unpopular this government program may be, this is the most important program because it fuels government operations,” Duque said.
He said they are here to be one with the entire BIR, to make effective its campaign to collect the right revenues from the responsible citizens and businesses all over the country.
Duque cited hospitals, health care services, fire support equipment, and police security as the fruits of the taxes collected.
“So ladies and gentlemen, we manifest our solidarity and our union with the BIR, let us be responsible citizens of the Philippine Republic, let us not forget this bounded duty of every citizen, of every corporate and business entity to please pay our proper taxes because it is the lifeblood of government and without your taxes government means nothing,” Duque said.
In the same occasion Duque handed over the Seal of Excellence award to BIR Revenue District Office 82, Cebu City South for scoring 90.69%.
Its staff headed by Atty. Hupp Palomine received the award.
The deadline for the filing of Income Tax Returns for this year is on April 16. (rmn/FCC/PIA7)
