CV highlights intensified campaign on fire prevention

Central Visayas, March 12 (PIA) --- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Central Visayas strengthens its campaign on fire prevention and dissemination of significant information to lessen fire cases.


In a recent Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO-7) Forum in line with the observance of March as ‘Fire Prevention Month,’ Insp. Arra Alpajaro Chief Fire Safety Enforcement Section BFP-7 regional operations said the agency has already started its house to house info drive on fire prevention.

“We have done this intensified information dissemination on the "do's and don’ts" in case of fire at home and tips on how to prevent fire,” Alpajaro added.

BFP 7 also initiated constant check up of electrical wirings in residential areas to assure fire safety more so in squatters areas.
The agency also distributed fire safety tips to residential areas, schools, government buildings and business establishments. BFP 7 then intensified its fire prevention campaign in school targeting youth.

 Fire Prevention Month celebration started on March 1 with  activities initiated by BFP-7 that would increase the awareness and capabilities of the public and youth on fire prevention.

These include Fire Safety Awareness Campaign tagged as ‘Ugnayan sa Barangay and Visibility Image Building Campaign’; region wide Berong Bombero sa Paaralan; the conduct of fire safety awareness campaign in all elementary schools thru lectures and (story telling).

BPF also conducted a regionwide refresher training to all volunteer fire brigades and Barangay Disaster Control Brigade within the area of responsibility.

The observance of fire prevention month also include house to house fire safety inspection for single and two dwellings to cover safety awareness to include education on safety measures at home, fire escape plan, EDITH-Exit Drill in the Home and how to use the fire extinguishers.

Other activities specifically for the youth include; a region wide three (3) day open house of all fire stations in which school children are invited in their AOR and be provided lectures on the basic use of fire trucks, EMS vehicles and its accessories, proper use of operations of fire extinguisher and things to be observed in case of fire.

Regionwide fire prevention games and contest participated by elementary and high school students and even professionals, BFP fire Olympics participated by BFP personnel from each province/district,  a region wide lecture on proper handling and use of LPG with ISLA LPG Corporation and SOPI Convention are also some of the agency's events. (mbcn/AYS/PIA 7)
