Chatto challenges Boholanos to fight criminality

BOHOL, June 13 (PIA) – Bohol governor Edgar Chatto challenges Boholanos to take responsibility to report crimes and must cooperate to sustain peace and order in the province.

“Each one should take responsibility and must not wait for other people to report crimes,” Chatto said in a radio program “Kita ug ang Gobernador.”

Chatto who is known for being soft-spoken and well mannered has clearly lost his cool due to the murders of police officers in the province who are very active in fighting criminality, especially the illegal drugs trade.
Everybody, he pointedly said, must cooperate so that peace and order in Bohol will last.

When the Province of Bohol declared February 11 as the ‘Provincial Day of Peace’, signifying the demise of insurgency in the province, it has set the tone for Boholanos to live in a non-violent society.

The declaration was based on the military’s pronouncement that Bohol is now an insurgency-free province also giving recognition to the police, soldiers and the people in sustaining peace and security in the province.

In his June 12 Independence Day message, Chatto paid tribute to our heroes of today who are willing to give up their ives to be set free from the bondage of criminality.

“True freedom is being able to decide freely, to be free from fear and criminality; where heroism and love of country are used as tools of development to become a free nation,” Chatto said.

The governor even challenged the barangay captains to do everything so they can declare their barangays as drug-free.

The killings of Danao PNP station commander SPO1 Noel Romagos and Chief Inspector George Cana, Ubay police station Chief, have been more than enough to trigger public’s hatred of the perpetrators’ blatant disregard of human life, Chatto added.

Even now, the most common Juan on the streets has been made aware of the dangers lurking behind dark corners and blind curves in their communities.

The indifference that some people show even when confronted by the boldness of common criminals carrying out crimes in broad daylight is a challenge to beat.

Earnestly asking for the people’s full support, Chatto boldly said, “illegalities and criminality in Bohol must stop.”

The governor reiterated his call to the Boholanos to help all law enforcement agencies by giving timely and accurate information about anything that they deem important and necessary, especially on crimes which are being perpetrated right before their very eyes.

To the criminals, the governor warns, “we just want peace, so let us be. Or else… (mbcn/PIA7-Bohol with reports from the EDCOM)
