Seminar on handling PWDs for barrier-free tourism set tomorrow



CEBU CITY, June 18 (PIA) -- The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) will conduct a “Seminar on How to Handle Persons with Disabilities” aimed at promoting a barrier-free tourism and disability-inclusive tourism environment for handicapped persons  on June 19. 


Basic objective of the activity is to promote foremost the government’s National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) and other disability-related statutes, such as Batas Pambansa Bilang 344, Republic Act No. 7277 and its amendment, RA 9442, and the universal policies and principles on “Accessible Tourism for All.”

Invited resource persons will teach front liners of hotels and other tourism-related industries on how to be more sensitive in dealing with customers with disabilities while staying in tourist facilities, such as hotels, resorts and similar establishment.

The activity also accentuates the implementation of the NTDP as one of the core programs of President Benigno S. Aquino III, which focuses on tourism promotion and development that will eventually create more job opportunities for Filipinos including those with disabilities. (rmn/fcr/Kristal A.
