Dumaguete City holds food fair for Nutrition Month

DUMAGUETE CITY, July 25 (PIA)--Dumaguete City set to hold Food Fair on July 30 at Quezon Park to culminate this year’s Nutrition Month celebration.
The City Nutrition Council with the Agriculture Office spearhead the activity in line with the theme “Kalamidad Paghandaan, Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan”.


Dumaguete City mayor Manuel Sagarbarria will lead the cutting of the nutrition vine to officially open the food fair with city officials.

The food fair displays different root crops, native products and vegetables coming from the barangays and they are for sale.

City Nutrition Officer Lourdes Taburasa said, the program will start at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome message by City Administrator William Ablong after which mayor Sagarbarria will deliver his inspirational message. 

This will be followed by simultaneous product demonstrations and contests that include agricultural exhibits/booth contest, A-1 Day Care contest, inter-barangay cooking competition and diet counseling.

The activity will end at 3:00 p.m. with the awarding of winners on the following competitions: 6th Inter-High School Oratorical Contest, Cooking contest, A-1 Day Care Child Selection, Day Care Nutrition Corner Contest, Day Care School Garden Contest, well baby contest, quiz bowl, inter barangay booth contest, and Best Barangay Nutrition Worker home garden and best co-operator home garden.

Meanwhile, the City Nutrition Office will hold a forum that focuses on a specific medical condition with the participants coming from the city hall employees on July 25 at the City Session hall.

Taburaza said the topic for the activity is” Cancer Detection and Prevention Forum” with the speakers, Dr. Betty Calderon , Oncologist and Ruth Ann Entea, a Nutritionist-Dietitian. (mbcn/JCT/PIA7-NegOr)
