Mitigate disasters, climate change phenomenon by staying fit and healthy

DUMAGUETE CITY, July 2 (PIA) -- Stay fit and healthy to cope and mitigate disasters and climate change phenomenon.
Thus encouraged Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo in his inspirational message that encouraged everyone to stay fit and healthy by eating nutritious foods.


This also jibes with the 2014 National Nutrition month' theme suggests, "Kalamidad Paghandaan, Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan." 

Nutrition month provincial celebration kicked off on July1 with a nutri-walk participated by students from Negros Oriental High School (NOHS), Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), the Philippine National Police (PNP), provincial nutrition council, national and provincial offices that walked from the Sidlakang Negros Village to the provincial capitol grounds.


Degamo encouraged his constituents to take full responsibility in caring for the environment and be prepared always in times of calamities and disasters brought about by climate change phenomenon.“We cannot separate hunger and malnutrition during disasters that’s why we need to mitigate and prepare for the worst case scenario to lessen its negative impact” the governor said.

The governor thanked all the government agencies and schools that participated in the nutri-walk and assured them that the provincial government under his leadership will support the Provincial Nutrition Council in implementing services towards good health.

Board member Liland Zoila Estacion on the other hand said, the provincial government has programs on nutrition and disaster preparedness in partnership with government line agencies.

As part of the provincial disaster preparedness, the governor initiated blood typing and donation program and encouraged walk-in donors to support and participate in this undertaking in preparation for emergencies during disasters, Estacion said.

Estacion also scored on the importance of proper nutrition for good health especially pregnant mothers and children for a healthy community.
In closing, she urged everyone to develop the attitude of being ready always to respond to any disaster by keeping ourselves healthy with proper nutrition. (mbcn/lpp/PIA-7/NegOr)
