NORSU student leader expresses apprehension over university dispute

BY: ROI ANTHONI B. LOMOTAN

DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug. 29 (PIA) – A student leader of the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) expressed his apprehensions over the on-going dispute between the Federated Faculty Association (FFA) and University President Dr. Don Vicente Real.

Federation of Student Government President Daryl Ligan fears that the tension between the faculty association and Dr. Real would bring negative implications to the university’s student community.

“Personally, I feel nervous for the consequences of the issue because it will be the students who will be directly affected by it,” Ligan said in the local dialect.

Ligan is also worried on the reports circulating that Rep. Henry Teves would not facilitate the 2015 budget deliberation of NORSU if both parties could not resolve the issue.

“What will happen if there will be no budget for NORSU? What will happen to the students?” Ligan shared.

The conflict between Dr. Real and NORSUFFA stemmed from complaints that Dr. Real allegedly harassed and intimidated some members of the association along with issues of alleged mismanagement and disobedience to the university Board of Regents.

NORSU Vice President for Administration, Planning and Development Dr. Peter Dayot recently called a press conference to publicly announce his withdrawal of support to Dr. Real due to the mentioned problems.

“I am officially withdrawing my support to Dr. Real. This is a very difficult decision to make but the recent events that took place in NORSU have compelled me to do this decision,” Dayot announced.

“I can no longer close my eyes and ignore a disgruntled faculty and students and the risk of sudden downfall of NORSU due to mismanagement,” he adds.

It was also him who disclosed in the press conference that Rep. Teves would not facilitate the university’s budget deliberation if the issue is not yet resolved.

With this pronouncement, the tension between both parties is expected to be more intense. But Ligan hopes what this will not compromise their education.

Ligan continues to make a call to both parties to come together and fix the conflict. He hopes that the problem would be solved as soon as possible. (mbcn/ral/PIA7-NegOr)
