DOJ, NCDA to hold workshop on PWDs access to justice

Central Visayas, September 3 (PIA) ---- The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) are set to hold a “Disability Awareness and Sensitivity Workshop on Access to Justice for Persons with Disabilities” on September 4-5 at Hotel Elizabeth, Cebu City.


Participants include prosecutors and lawyers from the Public Attorneys’ Office (PAO) in Central Visayas, representatives from different groups of persons with disability and other government agencies, and members of the media.

In a press release, NCDA noted that on the two-day workshop, series of orientations on the nature and characteristics of different types of disability and how to assist persons with such types of disability will be discussed by experts on the topics.

Also included in the program is the conduct of workshops on sample cases involving persons with various types of disabilities and a signing of Pledge of Commitment.

NCDA stressed that both activities are intended to further enhance awareness and generate support among the participants on how to facilitate access to justice of persons with disabilities.  

Workshop of the same nature was first held in Metro Manila, July this year and will also be held in Davao City for Mindanao and Subic, Zambales for Luzon area on November and December 2014 respectively. (mbcn/AYS/PIA7/with reports from NCDA)
