Dumaguete, Rotary club to hold drug summit in October

DUMAGUETE CITY, September 3 (PIA) --  The city government of Dumaguete through the Dumaguete City Anti Drug Abuse Council (DCADAC) and the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South will spearhead a two-day drug summit on October 8-9, 2014 at the Plaza Maria Luisa Suites Inn, Dumaguete City.


The scheduled summit will be participated by a multi-sectoral audience from the religious group, non-government organizations (NGOs), barangay and city officials, civic groups, media and other stakeholders, according to Leo Macalipay, executive officer of DCADAC.

There will be speakers from the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Manila, representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Cebu and from the Philippine National Police regional office.

A motorcade around the city will highlight the two-day activity on October 8 at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon followed by a program at the Dumaguete City Quezon Park.

The drug summit carries the theme, "Turn On To Vibrant Living, Turn Off Smoking, Alcoholism and Drugs (SAD)".

Dumaguete City mayor Manuel Sagarbarria directed DCADAC executive officer Macalipay to continue and intensify its anti-illegal drugs advocacy campaign which is closely linked to the recent spate of shooting incidents in Dumaguete City.

Based on the records of the city PNP, 90 percent of  victims of shooting incidents are directly involved in various illegal drug activities. (mbcn/lpp/PIA-7/Negros Oriental/ with reports from Syril Repe/CPIO)
