Central Visayas, October 21 (PIA) --- The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology
(BJMP-7) celebrates the 20th National Correctional Consciousness Week on
October 23 – 30 with services for inmates in Central Visayas.
In an AGIO7 Forum today,
J/SInsp Elsie Eireen Alcomendras said the inmates are given emphasis to
celebrate with the BJMP's services.
“Every jail has various
services and activities for inmates and most of these are for
rehabilitation of the inmates in Central Visayas," Alcomendras added.
There are different
rehab services delivered with the bureau and others stakeholders. Some of
the activities installed for the inmates in the weeklong celebration include
a mass, paralegal, medical/dental services, information/education
campaign, and cultural activities such as drama and dance contests.
Alcomendras added that
BJMP-7 wants to ensure that inmates will benefit with these rehab services
for them as the bureau links with the civil societies, academe, religious
sectors, NGOs and NGAs.
Aside from the weeklong
celebration, inmates under BJMP-7 are also set to showcase their livelihood
products made inside prison that will be displayed at the Cebu City Sports Club
on November 7. Among these products are fashion jewelries.
At present there are
about 9,000 inmates inside the 34 jail facilities for the entire Central
Visayas.
