CEBU CITY, February 25 (PIA) – Immigration
Commissioner Seigfred Mison recently visited Cebu for the launching of the
‘Handog Edukasyon’ program which highlighted the signing of a Memorandum of
Agreement (MOA) with five Cebu-based schools for college scholarship grants.
The educational
program allows dependents and siblings of regular employees of the Bureau of
Immigration (BI) – Cebu District Office to enroll in the identified schools at
50 to 100 percent discount rate.
These schools are the
University of Cebu, Southwestern University, AMA Computer College, Cebu
Doctor’s University and the Cebu International Distance Education College.
“The BI personnel are
very grateful for this opportunity to ensure the future of our children,” said
Mison adding that apart from the educational grant, the program also
underscores the value of Filipino sharing or Bayanihan.
Cebu is the first
province to implement the program after Manila as similar grants have been
given by the Emilio Aguinaldo College and Lyceum of the Philippines University
inked by a MOA signed just last month.
Mison said the agency
is eyeing Baguio and Davao to implement the same program.
The immigration
commissioner assured the recipients of the scholarship grant will be chosen
based on merit while financial standing will merely be a second factor.
The ‘Handog Edukasyon’
program is in line with the activities of the bureau’s 75th anniversary
celebration which culminates in September, this year. (mbcn/fcr/pia7)
