March 9 (PIA) --- The Metrobank Foundation Inc (MBFI) and the Probe Media
Foundation Inc (PMFI) held the Visayas region launch of the 2015 Metrobank
Foundation Search for Journalists of the Year (JOY) recently at Crown Regency
Hotel, Fuente Osmeña Boulevard, this city.
Aniceto Sobrepeña of MBFI said they are opening once
again the second year of the Search in line with the goal to recognize pillars
in the media industry.
"We are glad to visit Cebu City to extend the reach of the
Search to journalists from the region and encourage them to join. Indeed, we
look forward to having an awarded from the Visayas region," he said.
Christopher Bugaoan, MBFI Program Officer for Corporate
Communications Unit, bared that those who are qualified for the Search are
journalists who have been in the media industry for at least ten years covering
the period from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2014, practicing in the country
on a regular basis and having it as its primary source of income any medium of
journalism (print, radio television or online).
He added that the JOY Search is an open-nomination process.
Nominators must be of legal age and should not be related to the
nominee by blood.
Nominating individuals and organizations should secure the
signature of the nominated journalist.
Self-nominations are also allowed among interested journalists
with an endorsement by their immediate supervisor.
Nominees/ nominators are to submit five of their best stories for
review and evaluation of the Screening Committee.
The stories for review must have been published or broadcast
within the period of January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2014 by a bona fide media
organization or news outlet.
Two of the five works must have been done within the last two
years. It can be of ny mediym, format, length, language and theme.
Deadline for submission of nominations forms and materials is on
April 30, 2015.
Yasmin Mapua Tang, Executive Director of PMFI, said the 2015
JOY Search will recognize three journalists as paragons of their profession and
the media industry.
Each of them will receive P300T cash prize, a Pamukaw medallion
specially designed by 2011 Metrobank Foundation Prize for Achievement in
Sculpture (MPAS) awardee Priscillano Vicaldo and will be conferred with the
title “Metrobank Foundation Fellows in Journalism.”
The JOY Search is now on its 2nd year. The first journalist
recognized by MBFI in 2001 and then known as the Search for Outstanding
Journalists (SOJ) were Sheila Coronel, Jessica Soho and the late Armando Malay.
In 2013, it was re-launced to become Search for JOY with Malou
Mangahas, Jarius Bondoc and Jiggy Manicad as the awardees.
