CEBU,
March 8 (PIA) --- A multi-sectoral forum on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) is
set in Cebu on March 10 at the auditorium of the Armed Forces of the
Philippines- Central Command (AFP-CentCom) in Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City.
Foreign Affairs Sec. Charles Jose will be the main
speaker. The forum is part of a series of briefings on the WPS issue
conducted by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) throughout the 15 regions
in the country.
These briefings seek to explain the core issues of the WPS,
currently the subject of maritime dispute with China which is claiming ownership,
the principles underpinning the Philippine position on the issue and the
efforts of government to resolve the territorial dispute.
Over 150 participants composed of local government units, college
students, representatives from the business, religious and other government
sector as well as the media are invited to attend the event.
AFP-Centcom commanding general, Lt. Gen. Nicanor Vivar, will
deliver the welcome message followed by several presentations of the
subject. An open forum is done to solicit feedback and the views of the
participants about the issue.
