SIQUIJOR, April 15 (PIA) -- The province of
Siquijor has bagged the first prize for 2014 excellence in Kalusugan
Pangkalahatan Award.
Known to be the
highest award a local government unit (LGU) can get, Kalusugan Pangkalahatan
Award is based on the achieved performance level out of the 2016 National
Objectives for Health (2016 NOH) targets.
The recognition was
judged through scorecard indicators set by the Harmonization of Awards
Technical Working Group of the Department of Health (DOH).
Health Secretary
Janette L. Garin and assistant regional director Dr. Laksmi Legaspi handed
the award to provincial administrator Peter Samson and Provincial Health
Officer Redempta Cortes during the Gawad Kalusugan Convention at the SMX
convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex.
Gawad Kalusugan is a
harmonized awarding ceremony to selected LGUs for various categories in
recognition of their exemplary and good practices in health related activities,
initiatives and projects.
Earlier, during the
regional health summit at Dumaguete City, the province was awarded as Top
Performing Province in facility-based delivery, access to safe water and
primary care benefit package (PCB) based on the 2013 LGU-scorecard nationwide.
All municipalities
were likewise awarded as Top Performing Municipality in various health
programs. The awards were received by provincial governor Zaldy S. Villa with
the provincial health officer and the municipal mayors and municipal health
officers.
Siquijor
province has topped among the 80 provinces in the archipelago.
