DUMAGUETE CITY, May 27 (PIA) – The
Department of Education (DepEd) -Division of Dumaguete City announced the names
of public and private schools that are ready to offer Senior High School (SHS)
on 2016.
DepEd-Dumaguete City Curriculum

today that there are three public high schools and eight private secondary
schools that are ready to accept SHS students next year.
The identified public high schools are
Dumaguete City High School, Taclobo and Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial
(RTPM)-Dumaguete Science High School.
On the other hand, the eight private
learning institutions to offer SHS are Silliman Universiy High School, St.
Paul University Dumaguete-High School, Foundation University High School, Asian
College, STI, AMA, Metro Dumaguete College and Holy Cross High Schol.
Among the said private schools,
STI had already started SHS in June last year while SHS program at St. Paul
University Dumaguete-High School will commence this school year.
As for the different educational tracks
for specialization in SHS, Mapue said these may vary on private schools but for
the three public high schools there will be two tracks offered; the academic
track and the technical-vocational (tech-voc) livelihood track.
Dumaguete City High School will offer
academic track with specializations on Accountancy, Business and Management
(ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Science, Tecnnology, Engineering
and Mathematics (STEM) and General Academic Strand (GAS).
For its technical-vocational livelihood
track, Dumaguete City Science High School offers specialization on Home
Economics particularly on food and beverages, front office services,
housekeeping NC-II, bread and pastry production.
Another specialization will be on
ICT particularly on computer hardware servicing, contact center services,
industrial arts, electrical installation, plumbing NC-II, shielded metal arc
welding, masonry NC-II, tile setting NC-II.
In Taclobo High School the academic
track specializations are ABM, HUMMSS, STEM, GAS while their specializations
for tech-voc track are agri-fishery, slaughtering, artificial insemination and
tailoring.
RTPM-Dumaguete Science High School also
offers the same specializations for the academic track. However, for their
tech-voc track, the school offers specialization on computer programming and
medical transcription.
According to Mapue, these offerings are
based on the major industries that can be found in Dumaguete City.
Based on the K-12 basic education
curriculum, a student who finishes SHS is eligible to apply for a job, start a
business or pursue higher learning in tertiary schools.
“We are concentrating on what is the
(employment) demand right now,” Mapue said.
Meanwhile, Mapue also reported some of
DepEd’s preparations for the opening of classes this coming June 1.
She disclosed that DepEd had already
coordinated with the local police, traffic management office, and barangay
tanods to provide security and assist in the smooth opening of classes next
month. (rmn/ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
