Central Visayas, May 19 (PIA) -- Department of Science and
Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) is inviting regular third
year college students taking up Science, Math, and Engineering courses and
enrolled in any State Universities and Colleges or Private Institutions
to apply for the 2015 Junior Level Science Scholarships.
The grant is governed by Republic Act 10612, dubbed as
“Fast-Tracked Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 2013”, which aims
to strengthen the country’s science and technology education by fast-tracking
graduates in Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering who shall teach science and
mathematics in secondary schools throughout the country.
To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must posses these
qualifications:
- Should be a Filipino citizen
- Should be a regular third year college student in identified priority science and technology courses in any state university or college or private university
- Has a general weighted average of at least 83% (or its equivalent) in his/her first and second years in college
- Qualify in the JLSS qualifying examination
Applicants should also agree to these terms:
Agree to teach in the secondary level of basic
education in public or private high school as their return of service (ROS)
- Agree to any of the approved ROS and
- Agree to pay the amounts disbursed with applicable interest in case of failure to comply with the terms of Return of Service (ROS)
Applicants should be enrolled in the following CHED-compliant
science and technology priority courses: agriculture, agricultural
biotechnology (at UP System only), agricultural chemistry, agricultural
engineering, agricultural biosystems engineering (at UP System only) , applied
mathematics, applied physics, biochemistry, biology, ceramics engineering,
chemistry with applied computer system, chemistry with materials science and
engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering(at UP System
only) ,computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering,
electronics and communications engineering, environmental science, fisheries,
food technology, forestry, geology, geodetic engineering, geothermal
engineering, industrial engineering, industrial management
engineering-information-technology (at DLSU only) , information technology,
instrumentation and control engineering, manufacturing engineering
management-biomedical engineering (at DLSU only) ,manufacturing
engineering management-mechatronics and robotics (at DLSU only), manufacturing
engineering, materials engineering, mathematics, mathematics teaching,
mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, mining engineering,
molecular biology and biotechnology, physics, applied physics with applied
computer system, applied physics with materials science engineering, science
teaching (biology, chemistry, physics, physical science), and statistics.
Required documents for applicants to submit are the following:
1.) Accomplished JLSS Information Sheet (Form A),
2.) Accomplished Certification regarding course and year level
(Form B),
3.) Accomplished Agreement to Return of Service (ROS) Conditions
(Form C),
4.) Photocopy of Birth Certificate
5.) Official Transcript of Records or Certified True Copy Grades
for first and second year levels.
Application forms are available at any DOST office. In
Cebu, forms are available at DOST 7 office at Lahug S&T Complex, Sudlon,
Lahug, Cebu City.

Deadline for filing of application is on June 15, 2015 (Monday).
