GSIS Dumaguete now accepts college scholarship applicants

 Jennifer C. Tilos
DUMAGUETE CITY, May 7 (PIA) -- Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Dumaguete Branch is now ready to accept applications for this year’s College Scholarship program.

Branch Manager Atty. Mercedes Enriquez said the scholarship program provides members the opportunities to send their incoming college freshmen-children to colleges and universities for quality education.

Government employees with salary grades 24 and below can nominate their children to the scholarship grant which 200 slots are available nationwide.

The scholar may also opt to take a four- or five-year course but must meet the scholastic requirements set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in a Higher Education Institution.

However, Enriquez said 20 slots of GSIS Scholarship Program (GSP)  are for qualified dependents of persons with disabilities (PWDs), indigenous peoples (IPs), and solo or single parents.

Deserving and underprivileged dependents of PWDs, IPs, and single parents under Republic Act 8972 (Solo Parents Welfare Act of 2000) have more chances to avail of the educational college grant.

She said GSP is open to all active GSIS members who, at the time of application, have paid premium contributions for the last six months; are permanent government employees for at least three years.

GSIS Dumaguete Branch may accept applications with complete documentary requirements from May 4 to June 11, 2015.

Application forms may be obtained from the branch office or downloadable from the GSIS website, www.gsis.gov.ph(GSIS) and submit it to Johnadel Leong of GSIS Dumaguete Branch. (rmn/jct/PIA7-Negros
