CEBU CITY, May 13 (PIA) — Philippine Information Agency-Cebu
hosted the Cebu live streaming of Rappler’s nationwide launch of #PH Vote: The
Leader I Want.
Rappler, the Philippine’s first social news
network, partnered with academic institutions for the forum to serve as a
venue for the academe, civil society, private sector, policy makers, religious,
etc. to identity issues of leaders and the desired qualities.
The launch, which was held in De La Salle University, was
livestreamed in the different bureaus of Rappler including Cebu City.
Participating in Cebu City is the group headed by Rappler Cebu
reporter Dale Israel, Balbino “Ka Bino” Guerrero, a social advocate
and heritage interpreter in the province, and interns from Cebu Normal
University (CNU).
The group watched the livestream and participated in the
forum after every discussion through tweeting and social media posting.
The first panel discussion focused on the various issues faced by
past and current leaders.
Panelists include Dr Ronald U. Mendoza, Executive Director, AIM
RSN Policy Center; Dr Walden Bello, Former member of the House of
Representatives, Akbayan; Professor Winnie Monsod, UP School of Economics and
Dr. Cleo Calimbahin, Transparency International.
The second discussion focused on the kind of leaders apt to lead
the country with panelists Dean Antonio La Vina, Ateneo School of
Government; Dr Francisco Magno, DLSU Jesse Robredo Institute
of Governance; Mr Harvey Keh, Convenor, Kaya Natin and
Professor Leonor Briones, UP-National College of Public Administration
and Governance.
The forum is co-organized by the Building an Inclusive
Democracy (BID) consortium which includes the College of Liberal Arts of De La
Salle University, the Ateneo School of Government, the Asian Institute of
Management (AIM) RSN Policy Center for Competitiveness, and the University of
the Philippines-National College of Public Administration and Governance
(UP-NCPAG).
De La Salle University is the forum's host while the Philippine
Political Science Association (PPSA) is a co-presenter.
Guerero was livetweeting the forum and posted some points on
the Facebook Page “Maghisgut kitag Politika” (Let's talk about Politics)
which is popular among Subuanons.
Joshua Cabonillas, CNU intern, created a discussion among his
social network friends using the hashtag #theleaderIwant.
“ #TheLeaderIwant is a person who doesn't see religion,
ethnicity or even sexual orientation as a hindrance for productivity because
development can only be achieved if we unite to discourage these inevitable
forces that divide us,” Cabonillas posted.
Another CNU intern, Caren Gabisay, said the leader she wants
is a person who sees the potential of every Filipinos and make asap social
