CEBU, June 9 (PIA)— Over a hundred representatives composed
of local and national officials, municipal and city health officers, doctorss
and heads of district hospitals, DOH and other partner agencies filled the Cebu
Capitol Social Hall for the launching of the High Impact Five Summit of the
Department of Health (DOH).
DOH Assistant Secretary Gerard Bayugo, Cebu Provincial Governor
Hilario Davide III representing local officials and the heads of the
Departments of Interior and Local Government, Education and the Social Welfare
and Development and all other stakeholders forged an agreement to strongly
enforce programs that deal with its five health thrusts that
include Maternal Care, Infant Care, Under Five, HIV/AIDS and the
establishment of the Service Delivery Network.
Bayugo said “We wish to address these, reduce the numbers
affected and increase beneficiaries in the last remaining months of President
Benigno Aquino.”
Bayugo said it is important that they get the commitment of all
the stakeholders in order to produce the greatest improvements in health
outcomes with the highest impact on population within a short period of
implementation.
He said DOH calls on local leaders and health care workers from
the province to actively support the Universal Health Care High Impact Five
strategies.
Cebu governor Hilario DavideIII for his part said it has
always been the direction of the province to extend ample health services to
the constituents.
“We want every Cebuano to be healthy,” Davide said.
Attending the launching was League of Municipalities head Tuburan
Mayor Aljun Diamante and Vice Mayors League of the Philippines-Cebu Bogo City
VM Santiago Sevilla.
The heads of the 16 district hospitals and the barangay health
workers were also present. Signing the Pledge of Commitment highlighted
the event.
In 2000 the Philippines signified commitment along with the other
members of the United Nation countries to achieve the Millennium Development
