BOHOL, July 7 (PIA) --Tagbilaran City is arming its police officers especially in the onset of gun wielding criminals and drug personalities. They are given with 51 brand new Glock 9MM handguns courtesy from the national government complemented by the city sourced out 10 new units of M4 rifles.

Tagbilaran City mayor John Geesnell Yap announced this during his 'State of the City Address' (SOCA) reently that drew some considerable applause from the audience.

Yap admitted that crime fighting has never been more challenging as there is shortage of police warm bodies as the city continues to attract migrants.  He said he has pushed for an ingenious solution to the problem.

Myor Yar said, he already sent formal request to the Philippine National Police (PNP) leadership for more police officers to correct the ratio between police and population as Yap firmed up his Active Local Emergency Response Team (ALERT) as police force multipliers in the mean time.

The mayor said around 500 ALERT personnel are now helping police secure the city's 15 barangays from criminal elements.

City police chief P/Supt George Vale insists crimes can be minimized with the conduct of regular foot and mobile patrols, rigid implementation of police check points all over the city and the deployment of ALERT members.

For its visibility and capacity in pursuing motorcycle riding criminals or those riding in tandems, the city police recently had three  brand new motorcycle units for its innovative Motorcycle Anti-Street Crime Operatives (MASCO).

Capping police capability and visibility are two new police patrol vehicles which the mayor also turned over shortly before the SOCA.

The city has just implemented no-nonsense business and real property tax campaign, generating Php202,960,857.60 increase in local income during the first two years of the his term, sources at the mayors office said. (mbcn/rahc/PIA7-Bohol)
