BFAR-7, CLEAR-7 vow to intensify coastal, marine lives protection

    BY: AMORGANDA Y. SALUDAR

CENTRAL VISAYAS, May 7 (PIA) --- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) and the Coastal Law Enforcement Alliance Region-7) agreed to boost efforts in the protection and preservation of coastal and marine lives.

In a recent CLEAR-7 meeting, presiding officer BFAR 7 regional director Andres Bojos urged members of the alliance to be more serious and prompt in the implementation of rules and guidelines and put more teeth into laws protecting coastal and marine resources.

He said that BFAR-7 has pledged “to render any effort relating to fisheries.”

Representatives from Cebu City Bantay Dagat, Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force, and the Provincial Bantay Dagat Commission stressed that their organizations are willing to help other organizations in terms of law enforcement.

Bojos also encouraged the member agencies of the alliance to foster closer coordination with the provincial government in implementing rules and guidelines that would meet the mission of preservation and protection of coastal and marine resources.

“We will create a synergy between the provincial government and CLEAR in implementing rules and guidelines,” Bojos said.

He suggested that revisions be made on the existing protection procedure of coastal and marine lives under the Provincial Ordinance and the Provincial Bantay Dagat Commission. (rmn/AYS/PIA 7)
