DUMAGUETE CITY, May 3 (PIA)--Dumaguete City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) has collected 5,010 kilos of garbage during the 44th International Earth Day Coastal clean-up drive recently along the coastal barangays in the city.
Coastal Resource Management program coordinator Flora Ocao said the volunteers came from 25 local and national government and city hall employees, with nine barangays participated in the clean-up.
During the a clean-up drive, Ocao said, the volunteer- participants collected garbage along shoreline areas from barangay Piapi to Banilad.
Ocao added, of the total number of collected garbage along city’s shoreline, the volunteers collected 4,260 kilos of non-biodegradable and 750 kilos biodegradable.
Meanwhile, OIC-ENRO Officer Reynaldo Awayan said that aside from the coastal clean-up drive, the Department of Environment Natural Resources (DENR) employees also planted mangroves in coastal area of Barangay Banilad.
Awayan said the city government has been implementing Ordinance No. 88, the Comprehensive Coastal Resources Management program to address coastal problems on dumping of solid waste along the coastlines and waterways. (mbcn/JCT/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
