CEBU CITY, Feb. 21 (PIA) ---
President Benigno S. Aquino III highlighted the skills of the Cebuano workforce
in his speech at the launching yesterday, Wednesday, of a sprawling township
development area in Lapu-Lapu City.
The President was guest of honor during the unveiling of Megaworld
Corporation’s flagship project in Cebu, The Mactan Newtown.
In his speech, Aquino told Megaworld Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Andrew Tan that their company made the right choice in picking Cebu to develop
another township-type project outside Metro Manila.
“If there is any place where you can replicate your success in such projects in
Metro Manila, it’s here in Cebu. The workers you will find here are skillful,
creative and light-hearted, while possessing an unshakeable pride in the
quality of their work,” he said.
Tan said they aim to replicate the success of Eastwood City in The Mactan
Newtown.
The 16-hectare property is touted to be the biggest project so far of Megaworld
in southern Philippines.
The company will invest P20 billion in the next seven years to build luxury
residential condominiums, modern business process outsourcing (BPO) offices,
retail and entertainment strops, and an upscale boutique hotel.
Tan said that in five to seven years, they are looking at around 25,000 BPO
workers employed full time in The Mactan Newtown. (RMN-PIA 7, Cebu)
