DOST offers P860K funding assistance to SMEs in NegOr

DUMAGUETE CITY, March 13 (PIA) --The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) recently offered funding assistance of P860,000 for the two small local business groups in Negros Oriental to upgrade its current processing technology.

According to DOST information officer Roslyn Tambago, Vegidri Mills in Valencia, Negros Oriental and Algorithm Computer Services in Dumaguete City received P650,000 and P210,000, respectively.


Tambago said Vegidri Mills is one of latest recipients of the financial support for the technology upgrading of its existing food supplement production.

Vegidri Mills specializes on production of export quality dried Moringa (Malunggay) flakes and powder. It is set to acquire Dry Moringa Leaf Pulverizing Grinding Machine for a faster and efficient production of goods.

Company owner and general manager Florante Vicuña of Vegidri Mills personally received the funding assistance from Provincial Science and Technology Director Atty. Gilbert Arbon.

Meantime, through the DOST Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), Algorithm Computer Services also obtain a funding support to procure a brand new F8 Infrared BGA Rework and Desoldering Station.

These equipment which can repair large circuit boards such as main boards of a computer, game machines, mobile devices and other communications equipment, are expected to boost the firm’s troubleshooting service capabilities for computer, communications and related electronics devices, said Tambago.

Algorithm owner Randolf Bandiola received the DOST-SETUP check from Atty. Arbon on March 12.

 “Most firms are using either outdated or inadequate processing equipment,thus, the firms need to upgrade its existing technology in order to improve production efficiency and enhance product quality, therefore attracting more customers and becoming more competitive,” Arbon said.

DOST-SETUP is a nationwide strategy encouraging and assisting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations and increase their productivity and competitiveness.

The project also enables small firms to fully address their technical problems and improve efficiency by infusing appropriate technologies, human resource training and consultancy services, which are considered to be invaluable tools for the success of every business.
