DENR-7 holds Media Mine Tour

CEBU CITY, July 2 (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-7) in Central Visayas recently conducted a Mine Tour for Cebu media to showcase the environmental initiatives of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. (TCPI) in responsible mining.

The tour was part of the activities of Environment Month and climate change advocacy campaign of DENR and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-7) regional technical director Loreto Alburo said the TCPI is an active partner of the DENR especially in leading the implementation of the National Greening Program by rehabilitating sites used to mine out earth materials and adopting measures that protect and preserve the environment.

Seiichi Nakamura, senior vice president for operations of TCPI told media representatives it is a company policy to address environmental concerns and ensure that operations adhere to safe environmental standards.

Nakamura further said TCPI is also continuing its social development programs that benefit nearby communities in San Fernando, Cebu.

“We have consistently been rehabilitating sites where we are used to mine out earth materials used for our cement production and we operate in environmental-friendly conditions. Measures are also in place to mitigate any adverse environmental impacts”, said Nakamura.

Alburo with TCPI officials presented to media representatives the various programs of the company aimed at promoting health, nutrition and education to build better communities as part of their social corporate responsibility.

TCPI said the company operates with a high degree of compliance to environmental standards as its Environmental Management System (EMS) is attuned to the latest edition of ISO for quality management and occupational health and safety.

TCPI also presented the mining project profile of the Solid Earth Development Corporation (SEDC) and how the company with the SEDC implemented measures under its joint Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program.
