CEBU CITY, July 8 (PIA) – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD-7) with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC-7) conduct a series of provincial summits on disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) within Central Visayas as one of the major highlights in the observance of July as the 'National Disaster Consciousness Month'.
The Provincial DRRM Summits began in Bohol on July 3-4. Negros Oriental provincial summit starts on July 10 and ends on Friday; Cebu will have it on July 21-22 and Siquijor on July 24-25.
Expected to attend are local disaster risk reduction and management officers (LDRRMOs), planning officers, mayors, information officers, first responders and other officials to refresh them on the local government's critical role in disaster preparedness and DRRM including how to institute measures to mitigate natural calamities based under RA 10121 or the Philippines Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 among other related executive policies.
Activities outlined for this month by the RDRRMC-7 are lectures on Emergency Preparedness and School-Based Emergency Preparedness and Early Warning System in Consolacion and Medellin, Cebu; Contingency Plan Seminar for 10 towns in Bohol identified by the United National Development Programme; PHIVOLCS orientation; Joint RDRRMC-AFP Central Command Simulaton Exercise and media guestings.
The culmination of the observance will be the recognition of individuals and groups on humanitarian assistance and disaster response and the launching of the RDRRMC-7 website. (mbcn/fcr/PIA-7)
