VALENCIA, Negros Oriental, July 9 (PIA) --Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves has proposed for the construction of a road network linking Dumaguete via the towns of Valencia, Sta. Catalina, Siaton, Pamplona and Sibulan to spur economic development in the hinterland areas of Negros Oriental.
The mayors, with the Sangguniang Bayan members and other local officials of their respective local government units are expected to discuss the proposal in a meeting to be hosted by mayor Teves on July 11 at the Valencia gymnasium.
Although no estimate yet as to how much the project will cost, Mayor Teves wants the proposed road network to be funded by the national government.
The proposed national road network will traverse and inter-connect Dumaguete via Barangay Malaunay to Dobdob in Valencia, Sitio Avocado in Sta. Catalina, Barangay Mantiquil in Siaton, Enrique Villanueva in Sibulan to the town of Pamplona and vice-versa.
Mayor Teves is optimistic that constructing a national road network in these areas will encourage economic development as delivery of basic services will now be easier and faster. Underground movement activities will also be minimized on areas concerned, he said. (mbcn/JCT/PIA7-NegOr)
