Winners of 2015 1st chess tournament in NegOr bared


DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 13 (PIA) – Negros Oriental Sports Development Program (NOSDEP) with the Negros Club 64 Inc. announces the winners of the first rapid chess tournament this year.


National Master Rolzon Roullo was declared champion during the grand finals for the open category of the Rapid Chess Tournament held last Jan. 10-11 at Perdices Coliseum Lobby in Dumaguete City.

 Engr. Arnold Samoza, former Governor’s Cup titlist ranked second place while former Negros Oriental State University top board Bernabe Tagulo finished third place in the said competition.

Other professional individuals who won in the said category are National Master Ryan Trajera, Silliman Varsity coach Rudell Siglos, Jeffrey Alcantara of Tanjay, Ramon Sonjaco of Valencia, Juno Davad of NORSU, Florendo Zamora of NOSDEP and Al Dumalag of Sibulan.

Meanwhile, Alfonso Louis Olendo of Don Bosco emerged as the champion for the Inter-School 12 & under Category after achieving a perfect six-win streak. Alfonso defeated his older sister and fellow Bosconian Sara Francine Olendo who finished in second place. Completing the top three is Jerich Ivan Paalisbo of ABC Learning Center.

In addition, John Michael Estrada and Christer Mark Paculanang, two players from Bais City West Elementary School Bais ranked 4th and 5th place, respectively while other players who made it to the top 10 are Franchezka Kazandra Benedian of Bayawan City, Hannah Gael Tatoy of Silliman Elementary School and Hazel Sarao, Anselmi Repel and Renjill Tubil who are also from Bais City.

On the other hand, Justin Benedict Barron of Bayawan Science and Technology School bested other young chess player in the 8 and under category.

Arleah Cassandra Sapuan of Valencia Central Elementary school ranked second place in the said category while Karljakin Quilantang of Tanjay City became the third placer.
