22 (PIA)—The Negros Oriental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Council (PDRRMC) held a two-day planning workshop recently to come up with a
5-year Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan for the province of Negros Oriental.
Members of the PDRRMC
from the different government agencies presented their respective provincial
action plan and programs with the corresponding budgets for
integration in the making of a five-year disaster management
plan.
Office of Civil Defense
Officer Allen Cabaron ll gave an overview of the National Disaster Risk
Reduction Management (NDRRM) Plan urging the PDRRMC members to align
their local disaster plan with that of the national disaster framework.
During the Focus Group
Discussion, the members were briefed on the major disaster characteristics in
the province, risk profile and the current state of the Provincial Disaster
Management Plan.
Risk assessment in the
province were identified based on the hazard map from PAGASA. Local
Government Units’ (LGUs) susceptibility to a particular disaster were verified
and categorized under prevention and mitigation's conduct of vulnerability
analysis especially the critical facilities and infrastructure.
Cabaron also
encouraged the LGUs as frontliners in disaster preparedness to establish and
strengthen their capacities in anticipating, coping and recovering during
calamities.
Action plan of the
different government agencies will be identiifed based on the outcome of the
NDRRM plan under the four thematic areas namely: mitigation and prevention,
preparedness, response, and recovery and rehabilitation.
Second day of the
workshop focused on the presentation, critiquing and reviewing of the
consolidated outputs.
According to PDRRMC
action officer for the province of Negros Oriental Adrian
Sedillo, preparing for a disaster is vital to achieve the vision of zero
casualty.
He stressed further
that we should rely only on PAGASA’s official warning as far as weather forecasting
