CEBU CITY, June 15 (PIA) -- Seventy-seven companies participated in the recently held Overseas and Locals Jobs Fair initiated by Cebu City government to mark the 117th Philippine Independence.

Records from Cebu City's Department Manpower Development and Placement show there were 61 local and 16 overseas companies that participated in the annual Kalayaan Local and Overseas Jobs Fair held at the Cebu City Sports Center.

In terms of jobs offered, there were 5,300 jobs available locally and 15,580 for overseas jobs.

Joel “Jong” Gonzalez, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Assistant Regional Director, said the initiative is conducted in the hope of increasing the number of those employed in Central Visayas.

“Currently, 96 percent of the population in Region 7 are employed and four percent are unemployed. Hopefully, it will become 97 percent or more,” he said.

Maria Suzanne Ardosa, DMDP acting head, said the job fair and its services is not only for Cebu City constituents but the entire Province and nearby provinces.

The event was held in collaboration with DOLE and Sunstar Publishing Corporation. (rmn/fcc/PIA7-Cebu with reports from Judelyn N. Olarvida, PIT AbCom Intern)
