CEBU CITY, June 13 (PIA)—Around 20,000 jobs were made available to some 1100 jobseekers that participated in the “Kalayaan” Local and Overseas Job Fair of Cebu City held at the  Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC). This highlighted the 117th Philippine Independence Day 2015 celebration of the City.

Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) chief administrative officer Anthony Aguhar said, they hoped to employ majority of the applicants after processing their documents. There were 1100 applicants that  trooped on that day to apply for various positions offered.

Aguhar added that for now DMPD has not received the final list from the 77 participating companies; 61 are local companies while the rest are overseas.

"If ever we can't  accommodate all the applicants for today, they can always visit our office at the DMDP at Ramos Public Market 2nd floor." Aguhar said.

According to Aguhar the entry positions for the local job includes laborers, clerks, machine operators, technicians and service workers while the overseas agencies are hiring construction workers, engineering and manpower services.

"We already compiled the vacancies that we have right now, we will just issue a referral from the Public Employment Service Office (PESO)  for the late comer applicants that were not accommodated on that day.  If they have referral from PESO they will be entertained immediately." he added.

The 'Kalayaan Job Fair' was the second to be conducted in time for Independence Day celebration in partnership with Sunstar Cebu and in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Jobs fair helps DOLE's  employment facilitation program to the reach of the poor, unemployed and displaced workers in the regional areas.

It also support DOLE's anti-illegal recruitment campaign by enabling access of jobseekers to legitimate employers/recruitment agencies. (mbcn/fcc/PIA7-Cebu/with reports from Mariel D. Torres, Intern/ PIT AB Com)
