NEGROS ORIENTAL, June 8 (PIA) – Dumaguete City will join the rest
of the country in celebrating the 117th Independence Day on June 12 at 7a.m. at
the Quezon Park with this year’s theme “Kalayaaan 2015: Tagumpay sa
Pagbabagong Nasimulan Abot-Kamay ng Bayan.”
This year’s speaker is the OIC-President of Negros Oriental State
University (NORSU) Dr. Peter Dayot.
City Hall employees, as well as those of the national and local government agencies in the city, will gather at Quezon Park for the local commemoration.
The program will start after the simultaneous ringing of church bells, taps and sounding of sirens and raising and waving of flaglets at 7a.m.
In behalf of mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, OIC-mayor
Woodrow Maquiling,Sr., will lead the floral offering/wreath-laying at the foot
of the Rizal Monument along with acting Vice-Mayor Franklin Esmena., Lt.Col
Harold Pascua of 79th IB Philippine Army, Dumaguete City Police Supt James
Goforth,
Other local law enforcement officials will also participate in the
celebration which include Fire Marshall Major Arnulfo Sayson, Senior Inspector
Josephus Jelianggao of BJMP male dorm, SJO4 Nathalie Mae Matillano, BJMP Female
Dorm, Police Inspector Robelito DL Mariano, Provincial Chief of Highway Patrol
Group, Police Chief Inspector Helen Pasoy of PNP Provincial Crime Laboratory,
Ivy Claire Olendan of PDEA, Dominador Cimfranca of NBI.
The event will also be joined by school officials which include
DepEd Dumaguete Supt. Dr. Ramir Uytico,Dr. Ben Malayang, president of Silliman
University, Dr. Peter Dayot, OIC president of Negros Oriental State University,
Sr. Lucila Nintha Baldado, president of St. Paul University of Dumaguete,
Architect Dean Sinco President of Foundation University among government
agencies and NGOs.
Knights of Columbus is assigned as honor guard for the
celebration.
The highlight of the activity is the raising of Philippine Flag and singing of the National Anthem after the floral offering.

This will be followed by a recitation of the Panatang Makabayan to
be led by Dr. Neri Ojastro, Assistant School Division Superintendent, after
which the Pagpupugay sa Watawat by International Order of Demolay
The ecumenical invocation will be led by Most Rev. Julito Cortes,
Bishop of the Diocese of Dumaguete along with Rev. Elmer Saa of Silliman
Church and Iman Abdullah Ampaso of the Muslim Community.
The celebration will also include the singing of “Bayan Ko” to be
led by Ms. Julienne Faith Benarao, the Champion singing contest Children’s
Month Celebration.
This year’s love offering is intended for the marginalized and
