NEGROS ORIENTAL, June 8 (PIA)—The Provincial Nutrition Committee is
preparing to celebrate the upcoming Nutrition Month in July with a
series of activities aimed at preventing the prevalence of overweight and
obesity among Filipinos.
Focusing on this year’s theme, “Timbang Iwasto sa Tamang Nutrisyon
at Ehersisyo” the Provincial Nutrition committee will hold the following
activities: launching and nutri-walk parade on July 1; Kapihan sa PIA
on July 3; seminar/training on food processing sponsored by
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) from July 6 to 10 at the
Silliman University Nutrition and Dietitics Department; and culmination
activities to be held in Sibulan.
Suggested activities during the culmination day include hula
hoop contest, inter-barangay dance sport competition, on-the-spot poster
making contest, cooking contest, and launching of the biggest loser competition
to conclude on December 2015.
Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, Dr. Edgardo Barredo said that
the 2015 nutrition month campaign aims to increase awareness on the role
and importance of proper nutrition and physical activity in the prevention of
overweight and obesity among the general public .
This year’s campaign also stressed on how Filipinos
should make positive decisions towards consumption of healthy
food and be physically active to prevent non-communicable diseases as a
