RDRRMC, OCD-7 hold 3-day Reg’l Contingency Plan Formulation Workshop

CEBU CITY, September 17 (PIA) --- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD-7) and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC-7) held a 3-day Regional Contingency Plan Formulation Workshop recently to prepare and harmonize respective roles of agencies in times of emergencies and disasters.

P14B budget in ‘15 for LGUs to firm disaster risk reduction plans

CEBU CITY, August 14 (PIA) ---  Climate Change Commissioner Usec. Naderev "Yeb" Saño bared the government has earmarked P14 billion for 2015 under the People’s Survival Fund (PSF) to help local government units strengthen their climate change mitigation and disaster risk reduction plans.

Climate Change an important issue that calls for unity: Usec Saño

CORDOVA, August 13 (PIA) --- "Climate Change is a real issue now that calls of us to work together from the barangay to the municipalities to the province and the national level. To survive climate change, we have to build a betternation by taking care of our environment and natural wealth."
This was the urgent call of Climate Change Commissioner Undersecretary Naderev “Yeb” Saño in his keynote message during the 1st Barangay Summit on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation held in Cordova town, Cebu on August 8 that was initiated by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA-7) in the region in cooperation with the local government unit of Cordova.

Saño told the 100 summit attendees mostly barangay officicials, students, heads of departments of the town that climate change effects on people and communities include more typhoons, more rains or no rains at all, increase in temperature and sea level rise.
"Disaster Risk Reduction Management means reducing the root casuse of poverty. Kapag may mahirap, may disaster,' Saño said.

Call for more research for better disaster management

CEBU CITY, August 12 (PIA)--- The call for more researches related to various health impacts in relation to the recent disaster that hit the Philippines is emphasized in the celebration of the National Health Research System Week August 11-15 of every year. 


Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVCHRD) chairman, Enrico Gruet said there are still a lot of areas that need to be covered with research following the occurrence of disasters.

PIA 7 conducts 1st Barangay Summit on DRRM, climate change

CORDOVA, Cebu, August 11 (PIA) --- The Philippine Information Agency (PIA-7) conducted the 1st Barangay Summit on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation at the Cordova Home Village resort on August 8 with about 100 participants from the 13 barangays of Cordova town, Cebu.


Cordova mayor Adelino Sitoy in his opening message thanked the PIA for choosing his town for this activity. He said, Cordova is an island part of Mactan that is vulnerable to disaster risks mentioning the oil spill last year that ruined the mangroove plantations in the coastal barangays.


Sitoy enjoined the various representatives and officials from the barangays, students, and national government workers in Cordova to participate and be concern with the activities that preserve the environment.
