CPOC warned city residents vs. burglary syndicates

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Feb. 28 (PIA)--The City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) warned city residents of a new modus operandi involving a group of burglars roaming around onboard a Starex van.

According to the report, the group utilizes a Starex van to cover the façade of a store or business establishment burglarized and used it as their get-away vehicle.

This was raised during the monthly CPOC meeting held recently at the Panda Tea Garden in Dao, Tagbilaran City presided by Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II.  





During the meeting, Yap said the Bohol Bankers Association requested for more police visibility in the business district particularly along Carlos P. Garcia Avenue, where most banks are located.

Mayor Yap assured the public that the city government will provide more CCTV cameras to be installed in strategic areas of Tagbilaran City in addition to those that are monitored by the provincial government’s quick response team called the Telephone and Radio System Integrated Emergency Response (TaRSIER 117).

The Mayor added that the Bohol Bankers Association is set to donate motorcycles for the Tagbilaran City police force.

During the CPCO meeting, Tagbilaran City Police Chief Jovito Atanacio presented the City PNP’s comparative crime statistics for January and February of this year.

Crime volume for February increased by 13, reaching 96 as compared to 83 for January. However, crimes solved for the month of February decreased to 30 as compared to 32 for January.

Index crime for February is high, reaching 81 as compared to only 66 for the month of January. For non-index crimes, the city PNP recorded 15 for February while 17 for January.

The city police force recorded 31% crime solution efficiency for February as compared to 39% for January.

As for crime against person, records shows 2 incidence of murder, 1 homicide, 3 rape cases and 4 physical injuries for the month of January. There are 5 recorded incidences of physical injuries for February, while records show no incidence of murder, homicide and rape case.

As to crime against property for February, incidence of carnappings increased in February with 15 recorded cases as compared to only 4 in January.

Other crime sagainst property iincluded robbery-17 and theft-35 for the month of January, while it has a record of 18 and 43 for February respectively.

Meanwhile, it was also reported during the CPOC meeting that the Tagbilaran City Police Station received 30 new service firearms from the national office of the Philippine National Police (PNP). (mbcn/ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
