Central Visayas, April 16 (PIA) ---- The Department of Health (DOH-7) says survival rate of children with cancer cases in the country hikes to 50%-60% due to modern technology.
This is also attributed to the active advocacy and awareness campaign of the DOH specifically among children and parents and even in the academe.
But DOH 7 still warns the public that as reported cancer cases of children in the country increases to 5% per year.
In a recent Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO-7) forum, Dr. Eugenia Mercedes Cañal OIC of the Non- Communicable Disease section of DOH -7 said that of the children cancer cases in the Philippines leukemia ranks first.
Cañal added that base on records genetics is the major cause of cancer cases among children in the country.
She warns the public especially parents not to take for granted mild and light illness on children as this may be symptoms of other severe disease like cancer in which Cañal stressed “most cancer cases are fatal.”
Cañal also advised the public especially parents with cancer history to consult the doctor and seek advice to prevent the possible spread of cancer cells to their children. (mbcn/AYS/PIA-7)
