BY: RIZALIE A. CALIBO

SIQUIJOR, April 28 (PIA) — Parolees and probationers here were briefed on the significance of RA 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Law.

Atty. Ramon Y. Cinco, head of the Public Attorney Office (PAO) here, discussed the law that protects women and warns men to be cautious because violating them is considered a criminal offense.

Cinco cited that in Siquijor, VAWC cases mostly pertain to the husband’s or father’s neglect of financial support to the wives and children.

Only a few concerning physical violence were raised, he said.

Cinco also warned that drunkenness is not an excuse for committing the crime.

Husband or ex-husband, live-in partner or ex-live-in partner, boyfriend or ex-boyfriend, dating partner or ex-dating partner can be charged with volence against women under this law.

Physical abuse, physical abuse, physical violence, sexual and phychological violence and economic are the four types of violations against RA 9262. (rmn/RAC/PIA-Siquijor w/ reports from IAAbatayo)
