6.3-magnitude quake rocks Negros Island

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 15 (PIA) – A magnitude 6.3 earthquake around 6:16 pm today jolted most parts of Negros Island and other areas in Visayas and Mindanao
.

A report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) website said the location of the earthquake was at 9.27 degrees north, 121.87 degrees East, 077 km south and 65 degrees West of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.

Intensity 5 was felt in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental while intensity 4 was reported in Iloilo City, Pandan, Antique, Bago City, Basay, Sipalay, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental and Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.

Intesity 3 was reported in Roxas City, La Castillana, Carlota City, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Dumaguete City, Tayasan, Jimalaud, Ayungon and Sibulan towns in Negros Oriental, Jagna, Bohol, Oton, Iloilo, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu City in Cebu, Zamboanga City and Dipolog City.

Intensity 2 was felt in San Jose and Sibalom in Antique and Pagadian City while intensity I was felt in Kalibo, Aklan, Labason, Polanco and Manukan towns in Zamboanga Del Norte. Intesity 1 was also experienced in Masbate.
               
Bayawan City has activated its Public Safety Office to monitor possible aftershocks and inspect damages on structures due to the earthquake.
