BY: FAYETTE C. RIÑEN

Cebu City, May 29 (PIA)  --  A new potent drug in capsule form that is reportedly popular with partygoers in bars and clubs in Manila called ‘Fly High’ has not yet reached Cebu, bared the top ranking official of the  Police Regional Office (PRO-7) but said it would coordinate with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency  (PDEA-7) regarding the concern.

S/Supt Orlando Ualat, officer-in-charge of the PRO-7 in a recent police forum said no reports have reached their intelligence units that the new drug has entered Cebu’s market.

“The problem of Illegal drugs is actually not included in the mandate of the police. It is the PDEA that is the lead but the police will always support and works in tandem with the PDEA on the issue of illegal drugs,” said Ualat.

Ualat also assured he will immediately convene the officers from the intelligence units and the Anti-Drug Task Force as well as coordinate with PDEA-7 and Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force in Cebu and other provinces to monitor the possible entry of ‘Fly High’ drugs in the region especially in Cebu.

Fly High is a powerful drug which is a combination of ecstasy, shabu and cialis which is an ingredient found in Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction. One capsule reportedly fetches a price from P1,500 to P3,500 and can be used by two to eight persons.

Cebu meanwhile, has long been identified as a transshipment point for illegal drugs which worry police officials in the region as illegal drugs is a big factor in the commission of crimes.

The Fly High drug reportedly causes one to be sexually active while cases of rape incidents have increased in Central Visayas by 30 percent from January to April, this year with 187 cases compared to the same period last year with 139 cases.

Last January, a person was nabbed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for trying to transport the drug from Manila to an exclusive beach resort, based on an online article by Rappler. (PIA-7)
