Illegal drugs continue to proliferate in NegOr

BY: JENNIFER C. TILOS

DUMAGUETE CITY, June 5 (PIA) -- The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office-Provincial Anti-Drug Special Operations Task Group (NOPPO-PAIDSOTG) through SPO4 Mariel Abierra's team apprehended six persons for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In a recent Negros Oriental Drug Abuse and Prevention Council (NORDAPC) meeting held at the Capitol Bldg., SPO4 Abierra informed that for the month of May 2014 they apprehended six drug cases and filed the same to Provincial Prosecutor's Office for inquest proceedings.

Abierra informed that of the six apprehended three come from Vallehermoso, one each from Sibulan, Zamboanguita and Jimalalud towns.

Despite the efforts made by the NOPPO-PAIDSOTG in monitoring and apprehending drug pushers/users, drug abuse is still a perrenial problem in the province of Negros Oriental, Abierra confirmed.

He said, prohibited drugs proliferate and are shipped through couriers entering in our seaports and airports.

Abierra recommended that seaports and airports should have drugs sniffing dogs to check the presence of prohibited drugs in baggages and cargoes.

The supposed active participation of the Barangay Anti Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) is a big help in the prevention of illegal drug activities in the barangay level.

The PAIDSOTG officer said that community involvement should be active in addressing the problem on illegal drugs. Supposedly drug peddling are rampant in the barangays where they established their contacts for buying and selling of drugs.

The PNP's task in monitoring and apprehending violators need the support of the community, public officials and stakeholders in solving the problem against illegal drugs in our city and province, Abierra said. (mbcn/lpp/PIA-7/Negros Oriental)
