BY: AMOR Y. SALUDAR

Central Visayas, June 12 (PIA) --- As the nation commemorates the 116th PHL Independence Day, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama calls for unity for Cebu and the country to be free from corruption.

Rama, in his speech at the Plaza Sugbo during the Flag Raising ceremony said the country is now facing the critical issue of corruption citing the pork barrel and PDAF scandals.

“We should be awaken from arrogance and corruption,” adding that this is now the time to make a move against corruption and other wrong doings of some people in authority.

Rama also threw a challenge to the Cebuanos and the Filipinos to be united to promote perseverance and patience in the fight against corruption.

He then said that “Kung dili kita, kinsa man, kung dili karon kanus-a man, (if we cannot who will, if not today when will it be)

“Enough is enough to justify apathy, we can’t go back to Japan-American war at this time. No more justification for it,” he said.

The mayor also called the Cebuanos to promote and practice democracy as he expressed gratitude to the war veterans who suffered and shed blood just for Filipinos to have freedom and democracy.

“I will always remember how you shed blood to make the country independent,” Rama told the veterans. Filipino must live with patriotism, nationalism and practice democracy because there is no substitute for democracy, Rama concluded. (mbcn/AYS/PIA7)
