PIA-DENR to launch CV climate change advocacy campaign on June 10

CEBU CITY, June 6 (PIA) – The Pilippine Information Agency (PIA-7) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-7) will launch the Climate Change Advocacy Campaign in Central Visayas on June 10 during the 1st Regional Information Summit and 21st Consultative Conference of the Regional Association of Development Information Officers (RADIO-7) in the region at Hotel Elizabeth this city, June 9-11.


This is in line with the priority thrust of the Aquino Administration to build resilient communities in the face of disasters under the overarching message, "Nagbabago na ang Panahon, Panahon na Para Magbago." 

PIA director general Jose Mari Oquiñena and DENR-7 regional executive director Dr. Isabelo Montejo will lead the launching of the campaign with their respective messages. 

Oquiñena will talk on “Bayanihan in Climate Change Mitigation” while Montejo will highlights the National Greening Program that is crucial in mitigating the adverse impact of climate change.

Also invited is Engr. Oscar Tabada, chief meteorologist of DOST-PAGASA Visayas to explain the “Extreme Weather Patterns in the Visayas.”
The RADIO-7 Summit carries the theme “Relevant Information: A Tool for Sustainable Development in Tourism, Environment and Disaster Preparedness.”

 Expected to attend the #infoSummit are public information officers from the national and local government units as well as tourism officers of the various LGUs in Central Visayas. 

Secretary Sonny Coloma Jr. of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) will keynote the #infoSummit on its opening day with a talk on “The Role of PIOs in Disaster Communication.”

Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. is equally invited as the keynote speaker on the second day with the topic “Strengthening Tourism Information Thru Public Information and Provincial Tourism Officers.” (mbcn/FCR/PIA-7)
