CEBU CITY, March 28 (PIA) --- The
League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Cebu Chapter extended
financial assistance to areas in Central Visayas (CV) hit by the 7.2 magnitude
earthquake and super typhoon Yolanda, said LMP Cebu President Aljun Diamante.
In a press briefing on Yolanda
Rehabilitation phase, Tuburan Mayor Diamante said Cebu LMP donated
P250,000 cash to the earthquake victims in Bohol.
Diamante also stressed that
three hours after the quake happened, LMP Cebu solicited more than P2
million from its members for the victims.
Part of the amount was used to buy
relief goods such as rice and canned goods.
Diamante, together with LMP National
President Leonardo Javier, personally went to Bohol to deliver goods to the
earthquake victims.
For the 16 Yolanda affected areas in
northern Cebu, the local LMP donated P975,000.
Likewise, Diamante said Cebu Governor Hilario “Junjun” Davide III gave P200,000 each to all the towns of Cebu province for its disaster preparedness plans and programs.
Diamante emphasized that the local
government units (LGUs) in Cebu are doing their jobs in the preparation of
calamities.
Cebu LMP joined the “Task Force
Paglig-on” of Cebu province to help rehabilitate the typhoon-hit areas in the
northern part of Cebu.
He also said that Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI)
donated construction materials for the repair and rehabilitation of damaged
schools in San Remigio, Cebu where LMP Cebu is responsible for the labor
