CEBU CITY, March 4 (PIA) --- The
Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) formerly the National Statistics Office
(NSO) 7 will conduct a survey to update the List of Establishments
(LE) in Central Visayas starting on April 1, 2014.
NSO-7 Information Officer Noel
Rafols disclosed this during the Association of Government Information
Officers (AGIO) – 7 Forum held at the NSO-7 Regional Office, Cebu City.
Rafols explained that the survey aims
to provide a register of establishments containing information which will be
used to obtain an updated and reliable sampling frame for the agency’s business
and industry censuses and surveys.
LE is a database of all establishments
in the Philippines, added Rafols.
In the region, there are 4,000
establishments where the Statistics Officers will select thru sampling
procedures for their recipients including the small enterprises with 10
employees as long as it will be part of the chosen establishments to be
surveyed, bared Rafols.
The said activity is designed to
generate statistics on the characteristics of business establishments that are
useful for economic, government/business planning, and decision-making.
The collection of information is based
on Commonwealth Act No. 591, which emphasizes that “data furnished to the NSO
will be kept strictly confidential and shall not be used as evidence in court
for purposes of taxation, regulation or investigation”.
The main purposes of the updating
includes capturing and listing of characteristics of “new” establishments,
updating of the status and characteristics of “old” establishments, de-listing
“closed” establishments that should no longer form part of the LE and
identifying out-of-space units on the LE database.
He urged all the establishments to participate and comply the
requirements needed in this year’s LE survey.(rmn/HFG/PIA-7)
