CEBU CITY, April 29 (PIA) --- More than 17,000 job vacancies will be open for job seekers during the four jobs fairs that will simultaneously be held in Cebu to mark this year’s Labor Day observation on May 1.
The four jobs fairs will be held at SM Cebu, SM Consolacion, Abellana Sports Center, and Capitol grounds in Cebu City.
According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) Regional Dir. Chona Mantilla, a total of 165 employers will participate in the four jobs fairs.
Of the 17,500 job vacancies, 11,000 are for overseas and 6,000 for local employment, said Mantilla during a presscon held today.
Mantilla is confident that the job vacancies will be filled up during the jobs fairs this year.
More than 20,000 applicants were hired during the Labor Day jobs fairs in Cebu last year, of which 5,000 were considered HOTS or hired on the spot.
Cebu City government is this year’s host for the Labor Day celebration in Cebu.
The celebration in the province will start with a solidarity run that will kick-off at 6:00 am at LapuLapu City and Talisay City and will converge at SM Cinema, Cebu City where the opening ceremonies will take place.
Councilor Atty. Sisinio Andales during the presscon said the jobs fairs will greatly help in addressing unemployment in the province. (RMN/PIA Cebu)
