CEBU CITY, May 20 (PIA) --- The Philippine Navy Naval Forces Central (Navforcen) together with Cebu Provincial Government? apprehended at least ten men this morning who were caught illegally fishing in Brgy. Looc, Talisay City.

According to Navforcen Information Officer Ens Abuan, the fishermen were nabbed by members of the Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force, a composite team of enforcers from Cebu provincial government and the Philippine Navy.

"The operation started last night at around 9 pm to 10 pm, and the fishermen were caught this morning," said Ens. Jaypee Abuan in an interview with Philippine Information Agency.

The task force caught the fishermen using fine mesh nets, a violation of the fishing code.

They were also fishing too near the shore, said Abuan.

The violators are now under the custody of the provincial government, while the fishing vessel will be turned over to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

Abuan said the Navforcen, in line with their mandate, aims to continue strengthening the advocacy against illegal fishing. (RMN/PIA Cebu)
