CEBU CITY, May 1 (PIA) --- President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is set to lead the launching of a shared service facility (SSF) for loom weavers in the quake-stricken municipality of Tubigon, Bohol on May 2.
True to his word to prioritize revitalization of livelihood in disaster areas, Pres. Aquino himself will launch the SSF project initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
DTI, through Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo, earlier made a pledge to help in the recovery of Bohol’s weaving industry particularly the material called Raffia.
Pres. Aquino will arrive at Pinayagan Norte, Tubigon, where the SSF is located and is expected to tour the entire facility.
The launching and turn over program will then follow where Secretary Domingo is expected to deliver a speech.
Aquino will then initiate the ceremonial turn over of the SSF to the Tubigon Loomweavers Multipurpose Cooperative (TLMPC).
The Tubigon facility is one of DTI’s priority projects under the SSF program.
The project is a recipient of a P3-million DTI SSF funds wherein the purchase of 15 units upright handlooms, accessories, and laboratory equipment were made possible.
TLMPC, according to DTI, had supplied high-end quality raffia fabrics to big companies in Europe like Hermes and Louis Vuitton
The SSF is a project partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, INTERLACE, a Cebu-based European exporter of high-end quality fabrics and the Local Government Unit of Tubigon. (rmn/FCC/PIA-Cebu)
